Podcasting into the Internet

Have you gotten into the podcast craze yet?

Podcasts are convenient entertainment and education when jogging, in the car, or doing other things that don’t require much more attention than just listening. And while there are podcasts for every interest, we’ve listened to a few that might be of interest to boaters and fishing enthusiasts.

Here’s a list of some of the most popular and interesting boating podcasts:

Whether you’re commuting to work, getting in your daily dose of fitness, or taking care of things around the house, podcasts are a great source of education and entertainment. With categories spanning for every interest you can imagine, there are a few specific podcasts with boating and fishing influence that we find are worth a listen:

Boats and Billfish.  Hosted by Capt. Darrin Isaacs, this podcast is about the people, places and things in the world of high-end billfishing. Isaacs follows the fishing crowd around the world in search of pelagic species, and throws in boat reviews, travel reports, info on the latest gear, and talks with other captains about techniques and secrets for catching the big ones.

Point Click Fish.  Jay and Price Feimster started a fishing website 22 years ago from their North Carolina home, and turned it into Point Click Fish -The Ultimate Fishing Network, an industry with a radio show, podcast, blogs and social media. Their podcast appeals to captains, fishers of every stripe, and boat owners with a blend of information and humor.

Good Karma Sportfishing.  Capt. Ryan Van Fleet reports from the Florida Keys on this weekly podcast. Filled with fishing tips, interviews, seminars, gear reviews, and travel tips from the Keys, this podcast’s theme is in the name of maximizing results, catching big fish, and having a lot of fun doing so.  Many of the podcasts are species-specific, so look for the fish you want to catch and give it a listen.

Anchors Aweigh.  Anchors Aweigh is a podcast for all boaters, from aspiring to experienced. Matt O’Hara, owner of a boat club and marina on New York’s upstate Lake George, produces this informative podcast highlighting boating tips and tricks, boats and gear, industry trends, and great boating stories. Anchors Aweigh is deemed by its listeners as both Informative and easy listening.

World of Boating. Launched in 2004, this nationally syndicated radio show is broadcasted live every Saturday from 2-3 pm EST. The programs are then archived at worldofboating.com. The crew – a bunch of old Florida-based salts – is informative and entertaining as they discuss current topics of interest to boaters, including boat show news, new products, current events, tips and more.

The Boat Galley.  Two women with years of experience living aboard boats discuss all the ins and outs of living–and cooking–on the water.  Their weekly podcast is full of tips and insights, easily digestible (the shows run from five to 20 minutes). Their honest and spirited point of view is most enjoyed by their following. They even have a newsletter worth subscribing to and a cookbook  of boating inspired recipes.
